How to Knit a Scarf

Knitted scarfs are so much more than a regular scarf. If you want to knit a scarf to give it as a present, your beloved one will surely know how much effort you’ve put into it, taking your gift to a whole new level.

Choosing your yarn:

  • If you are a beginner, avoid fine yarn, use bulky yarn.
  • Worsted Yarn: 5 stitches per inch / Bulky yarn: 4 or less stitches per inch.
  • If you go with fine yarn, pick small niddles (more on that later).

Choosing your needles:

  • Suggested Needle Size: US 9, or 5.5 mm (metric system)
  • Bulky Weight: US 9-11
  • Worste Weight: US 6-9

    Hi Mary,

    As a general rule, keep in mind what the usual outfit of your cousin looks like.

    If he’s usually wearing colorful clothes you’ll want to get him a gray or b&w scarf to counter-balance the color. If, on the other hand, he’s clothes are more on the boring/gray side, you’ll want to knit a colorful scarf for him.

    Hi,

    I knitted a scarf for myself last week, but it’s too short!!! I recommend to anyone reading this to take into account if you need a large scarf or a shorter one.
